Below you will find our Frequently Asked Questions. Please take a few minutes to look through them to answer questions you might have about the rental process or your trip. We’re often adding to this list, so our apologies if your questions are not answered here. How many miles are included?
100 miles per day (on average). The first day is the day you pick up the van, the final day is the day you return. For example, if your reservation is 10 days, you have a total of 1000 miles to use.
Can I bring my pet along?
Pets are currently prohibited inside all ROAMERICA vehicles. We’re working to add “pet-friendly” vehicles to the fleet! We’ll alert you via our newsletter. If you’d liek to sign up for the newsletter, you can do so at the bottom of this page.
How many people can sleep comfortably in a ROAMERICA van?
ROAMERICA vans can comfortably accommodate four (4) adults. The vans have five (5) seatbelts, and groups of five have made it work-just prepare to be extra cozy!
Can I take a ROAMERICA van off-road?
ROAMERICA offers 2-wheel drive (2WD) and 4-wheel drive (4WD) vehicles. However, the rental may only be used on those public roadways with sufficient width and clearance to allow the rental to be operated safely and without damage.
Can I drive on the beach?
Some ROAMERICA vans are 4WD, but renters are not allowed to drive in any place where vehicles are not allowed. Renters must follow all rules of the road and the vehicle usage rules of whatever area you are exploring. Vehicles are allowed on the beach in certain areas. However, we suggest you use extreme caution should you decide to take a ROAMERICA van on the beach and air down tires appropriately. Tides change fast and losing a vehicle to the ocean is a real and certain risk.
What do I do if I get a flat tire?
All vehicles are equipped with tire changing equipment and if you need help, Road Side Assistance is available to purchase with your reservation. Please let us know as soon as you can if you do get a flat tire. Should you find yourself in a situation where a simple flat tire replacement will not get you back on the road, we’re here to help.
What do I need to bring on my trip?
For the most part, just personal items! Please visit this page to see what is included with your rental as well as additional equipment available for rent.
Are the vans heated?
Yes! The vans have thermostat-controlled heating systems.
Do I need a cooler?
Nope! There is a small refrigerator in each van. If you think you might have too much for the refrigerator, please let us know what you intend to bring and we’ll help you determine if you’ll need an extra cooler. We can provide a DAKINE cooler for an additional charge.

What is the height clearance of ROAMERICA vans?
The height depends on the vehicle you are in and whether you have accessories or gear on top. However, the vehicles range from 7’-9’.
Can I drop off the van in another state?
We only offer pick up and drop off at our office in Portland, Oregon at this time.
Do I need a special license to drive a ROAMERICA campervan?
No, special license is not required to drive a ROAMERICA campervan. However, you must have a valid drivers license, be at least 25 years of age and pass our driver verification check. Any additional drivers to be added on the contract must have their current drivers license as well and must be present at pickup.
Do you offer transportation to and/or from the airport?
We are more than happy to pick you up and drop you off at the Portland International Airport free of charge during our standard hours of 9-5 Monday through Friday. Both early and late pickups/dropoffs are available for an additional charge as well as Saturday’s.
Do I have to return the campervan with a full gas tank?
You must return the campervan with the same level of gasoline that it had when you picked it up. If not, there will be an additional charge.
What kind of deposit, if any do you require in order to rent?
A deposit of 30% the cost of your rental is due at time of booking in order to hold the vehicle for you.
Is smoking allowed in your campervans?
There is no smoking whatsoever in any of our vehicles. There will be a significant fine imposed if any evidence of smoking exists in the campervan.
Where will we camp?
In the Pacific Northwest and nearby regions ripe for exploration by campervan, you have loads of options! Generally speaking, camping is allowed in our National Parks, State Parks, National Forests, National Monuments and BLM land. Our campervans are ready to camp in either designated campgrounds, or in the backcountry! In fact, we recommend finding your own spot in one of our National Forests rather than established campgrounds-which are often busy especially during the spring and summer. Though it might be harder to pre-determine your exact spot for the night, backcountry camping in our National Forests can be much more rewarding, offering more privacy, views, hiking, fishing, wildlife and more. It is always wise to check with a nearby ranger station before entering the backcountry. The forest rangers can help answer questions and even provide you with tips on where to find what you’re looking for, and what to avoid. Remember that backcountry camping means you’ll go without amenities of a campground (toilets, showers, etc.) for the night, but we send you out with the right gear to make it as easy and comfortable as possible. If you’re looking for specific recommendations, just let us know!
How long does vehicle orientation and paperwork take?
Plan on 30 minutes – 1 hour. We will make sure you are comfortable with the vehicle and your trip itinerary before you set off. Sometimes this means reviewing vehicle safety and your itinerary in more depth.
